HALL OF FAME
GABE MCMILLEN
BASKETBALL
Gabe McMillen helped establish a lasting standard of excellence for Indian Rocks Christian School basketball. A 2003 graduate, McMillen combined record-setting scoring with team success, completing his varsity career with **2,849 points**—the highest total in school and Pinellas County history at the time and among the top five career totals in Florida.
McMillen participated in the IRCS basketball program from 1997 to 2003, while also competing in track and field from 1999 to 2003 and junior high football from 1997 to 1998. On the basketball court, he earned All-State honors and led Pinellas County in points per game during multiple high school seasons. As a junior in 2002, he helped lead the Eagles to district and regional championships and a berth in the state Final Four.
For McMillen, those accomplishments were closely connected to the people who shaped his experience. IRCS and First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks served as a second home for his family. His parents were faithful supporters who never missed a game, and his brothers helped fuel his love for basketball. Playing alongside his older brother, Caleb, for three varsity seasons remains one of his most meaningful memories.
McMillen also credits Coach Joe Frost with believing in him early, teaching him the value of hard work, and inspiring his interest in coaching. The relationships he built with coaches, teachers, and teammates extended well beyond graduation.
Following his time at IRCS, McMillen earned a full NCAA Division I basketball scholarship to Stetson University. He appeared in every game throughout his four-year collegiate career and, as a senior, led the team in assists while finishing second in scoring. He later played professionally in Tarragona, Spain, before returning to Stetson for a year of coaching. He continues to invest in young athletes as the junior varsity basketball coach at Orangewood Christian School.
As a member of the inaugural IRCS Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2026, McMillen is recognized for his outstanding achievements and his lasting place in Eagles athletics history.
“Above all, I want to give God all the glory for what this amazing game has blessed me with and continues to bless me with.” — Gabe McMillen

For 35 years, Vern Kinsey has helped shape Indian Rocks Christian School athletics through coaching, mentorship, and service. His influence spans numerous sports and generations of Eagles, earning him a place in the inaugural IRCS Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
Beginning in 1991, Kinsey served in coaching roles across boys soccer, boys basketball, boys golf, girls basketball, and girls soccer. His longest coaching commitment has been to boys and girls track and field, serving 14 years as an assistant coach and 20 years as head coach.
Under his leadership, the track and field program has achieved sustained success, compiling **16 district championships, two regional championships, and 17 consecutive state championship appearances**. The program has produced 197 All-State medalists and 18 collegiate athletes, reflecting both competitive achievement and opportunities for students to continue their athletic careers.
Kinsey’s teams have earned five top-five state finishes, placing fourth in 2017, third in 2022, fourth in 2023, second in 2024, and third in 2025. His leadership also earned him recognition as the **Tampa Bay Track Coach of the Year in 2017**.
Beyond coaching, Kinsey has been a familiar voice of Eagles athletics since 1991, serving as the public address announcer for home football games for 35 years and lending his voice to soccer, basketball, and baseball events.
For Kinsey, the significance of his career rests in the relationships built along the way. He credits mentors, assistant coaches, school leadership, and dedicated athletes and families for helping the program grow. Among those relationships is his 20-year partnership with Bobby LaBrant in track and field—a shared commitment to helping Eagles athletes pursue new levels of achievement.
His Hall of Fame recognition honors decades of service, sustained program excellence, and a commitment to athletics as a ministry for the Lord.
“What has made the journey so meaningful are the many people along the way who have impacted my life, become mentors and friends, and encouraged and supported me,” Kinsey shared. “I am humbled and honored to be part of this great ministry for the Lord.”
